GYPREG: growing season, growing insights, spring highlights

A landowner of our field trial invited farmers to talk about soil structure, gypsum and structural lime.

Spring Growth on the Ground: Swedish Field Trials Advance
The field trials are one of the key activities in the project. Last autumn, we applied gypsum and structural lime to different sections of the field. In April this year, the farmers fertilized and sowed spring barley across the entire area. The crop will grow as usual until the harvest in August - that’s when we’ll begin looking for differences in soil, crop, and the quality of water runoff between the treatments. Initial results are expected in October.

Collaborating Across Borders: Partners Meet in Riga
The GYPREG consortium gathered in Riga this May for a partner meeting that combined scientific progress with strategic planning. Discussions focused on the early implementation of field trials, outreach activities, and preparations for the next project phase. Collaboration across countries remains a cornerstone of the project - and the meeting highlighted the value of bringing diverse expertise together, learning from each other, and shaping the work ahead through open dialogue and shared experience.

Field Dialogue with Local Farmers
In the beginning of June, we had the pleasure to meet around 30 farmers from the Norrköping area discussing GYPREG. The landowner at one of our field trial sites invited nearby farmers to his field, to talk about the trials, soil structure, gypsum and structural lime. A great opportunity to inform about the project and get direct input from the ones who are most the important in making things happen.

Showcasing GYPREG: On the Ground in Sweden and Poland
June was a busy month for GYPREG on the outreach front. Our team took part in two important agricultural fairs - Dni Pola in Bratoszewice, Poland, and Borgeby Fältdagar in Sweden. Both events were great opportunities to meet farmers, advisors, and others involved in agriculture. We shared the latest about the project and talked about how our research supports more sustainable farming and healthier soils. These fairs reminded us just how valuable it is to connect directly with the people working the land every day, hear their perspectives, and build stronger links between research and practice.

New Faces in the Field: Welcome Aleksandra to the GYPREG Team
We’re happy to welcome Aleksandra Najda as GYPREG’s new Business Manager in Poland. Aleksandra has a strong background in the non-profit sector, especially in managing projects, coordinating with stakeholders, and educational initiatives. In her role, she’ll help strengthen collaboration between farmers, researchers, and local partners - making sure that GYPREG’s work stays practical and grounded in real-world needs.
