We have successfully implemented a prevention cover for dry bulk fertiliser unloading at a terminal in Gdansk Port. Thanks to excellent cooperation, the cover is now fully operational. We are also in discussions with other terminals in the Szczecin Port area for similar measures. In addition, we recently co-hosted a workshop with HELCOM to discuss strategies for reducing nutrient emissions in Baltic Sea ports, attended by industry and government stakeholders.

We are thrilled to announce that our collaboration with a terminal in Gdansk Port has resulted in the implementation of a prevention cover for unloading dry bulk fertiliser. The cover was installed in early February and is now fully operational. We are grateful for the excellent cooperation between our organisation and the terminal, which has led to this successful outcome.

Furthermore, we are in discussions with other terminals in the Szczecin Port area to explore the possibility of developing similar prevention covers and improving cleaning operations. We are committed to continuing our efforts to reduce nutrient emissions in the Baltic Sea region and to spread awareness about this important issue.

As mentioned in our previous newsletter, Race For The Baltic, together with John Nurminen Foundation and Coalition Clean Baltic, was asked by HELCOM to advise on minimising nutrient losses from dry bulk fertiliser storage and handling in ports in the Baltic Sea. Our three organisations proposed organising a workshop on the matter for industry, authorities, and other stakeholders. We are pleased to report that the workshop was endorsed by HELCOM and took place on the 14th of March in Gdynia, Poland in addition to Transport Week organised by the Baltic Ports Organization.

Co-hosted by the Governments of Poland, Finland, and Germany, the workshop aimed to progress towards implementation of the HELCOM Baltic Sea Action Plan action S21. Presentations were given by experts on topics including Port of Klaipeda, Ramboll on behalf of German Environment Agency, Port of Hamina Kotka, terminal operator Rauanheimo and YARA Uusikaupunki. Overall, the workshop provided a forum for industry, government, and other stakeholders to learn about and discuss strategies for reducing nutrient emissions in the Baltic Sea in ports.
