Production: Grupa Azoty Police and Race For The Baltic announces cooperation

Significant progress was made with our key partner in Poland, Grupa Azoty Police where we officially announced cooperation to reduce the environmental impact on the Baltic Sea. The port is located just by the Oder River and it is Poland’s fourth-largest port by cargo volume with two million tonnes of cargo being transshipped here annually. After the successful implementation of cleaning sweepers in the Police Port terminal, RFTB is now looking at new projects together with Grupa Azoty within environmental sustainability. RFTB also participated in a series of meetings and a conference where we discussed the circular economy possibilities within the phosphate industry and presented best available practices for handling dry bulk fertilizer in ports.

New project with Grupa Azoty Police
During 2023, Grupa Azoty Police and RFTB entered into a partnership agreement, underscoring their commitment to collaboratively enhance the operations and production of the factory and ports. This collaboration is focused on ensuring environmental sustainability. During the same year, RFTB contributed to this initiative by funding a new set of cleaning sweepers aimed at minimizing dry bulk emissions at the Police port terminal. This venture proved to be a resounding success, prompting Grupa Azoty Police and RFTB to extend their partnership. They are currently working on the construction of a preventive cover at the port terminal to further their environmental protection efforts. Moreover, in January 2024, RFTB and Grupa Azoty Police convened a meeting to explore new projects with the potential to reduce phosphorus emissions from the production of phosphoric acid and fertilizers.

CRU Phosphates 2024 conference in Warsaw, Poland
At the end of February, Fanny Tham Ratz represented RFTB at the Phosphate 2024 Conference and Exhibition in Warsaw. This prestigious gathering brings together some of the largest phosphate producers. It offers deep insights into trends that are poised to influence demand across the fertilizer, feed, and industrial phosphate sectors. However, the most significant aspect of this conference is its role as a critical platform for learning about new technologies and innovations aimed at enhancing industry processes from different angles where one of course being the environmental perspective. The topic of phosphogypsum reuse was highlighted in numerous sessions, underlining its importance. RFTB made a notable contribution with a presentation on the best available practices for handling dry bulk fertilizer in ports, introducing a fresh and well-received perspective to the discourse.
